Voices Ensemble
Our Beginnings
TheVoices! ensemble emerged during the COVID lockdown of 2020-2021, as a more performance-focused subset of OneVoice CircleSingers. At that time, our monthly circlesings and workshops, and our annual Sing for Your Life celebrations were on hold. The whole world tried to figure out how to improvise our way through that disorienting time. We were all learning about viruses and PPE and social distancing along with everyone else, but we still wanted to sing!
We found, along with every other musician on Earth, that Zoom just didn’t work for us. Especially since we craved relationship, along with the music. So we began tentatively to gather, masked and distanced, in David Worm’s driveway. There, we learned more about the inner workings of circlesongs – the building blocks, the song forms, and most of all the trust and vulnerability of stepping into the center and letting our hearts speak through our voices.
Soon, we were singing and recording, and even making videos, with the help of our good friend and fellow singer, David Creech. We named ourselves Voices in a New World, and began, along with everyone else, the slow re-emergence.

As Voices in a New World, we envisioned a collective that could encompass more than the music we share. We welcome poets and writers, visual artists, dancers and theater performers – and quite a few people still awakening their creative gifts in whatever form those might take. All that’s required is a willingness to hold each other in stretching our creativity beyond what we already “know” – and of course, to improvise!
Our intention was and is to “change the world with our breath” because we had already seen a change in ourselves from this work together.

Songs & Circlesongs
Soon enough, it was the fall of 2021, and time to decide whether our community was ready to attempt another Sing for Your Life celebration. Of course, the answer was yes yes YES!!!
We loved learning and performing songs, with actual parts we had to learn, and we’re happy to share some fruits of that time with you. Enjoy!
Now, once again we are re-imagined as a roving flashmob, ready to instigate improvised songs wherever we are invited. Voices! continues to meet weekly as a group, focused on growing as Circlesong composers and conductors. (Though we occasionally and not-quite-spontaneously revisit some of the music we prepared along the way).

F.A.Q.
Yes! We meet weekly on Mondays. You can try it out and see how it fits for you. After that, all we ask is that you attend regularly, contribute in one of many possible ways to the success of our group, and join our public performances whenever you can! And of course . . . be ready to make stuff up! Contact us for details.
Feel free to reach out via our Contact page, with details – dates, location, type of event – and we’ll get back to you!
Check out our Events calendar . . . we’ll post our doings there!
We show up in lots of different ways – sometimes we are on stage, either as ourselves or with friends. Sometimes we arise “spontaneously,” flashmob style, from within the audience at an event or festival. We also offer workshops. Whatever happens, we always invite everyone to sing with us. We’ll work with you to craft an experience you’ll love.
